Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its new folding smartphone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, on August 14. The phone is designed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and offers some exciting features. Xiaomi co-founder, Lei Jun mentioned that this phone is not only focused on being thin and light but also on providing top-notch features to shape the future of foldable phones.
Unlike its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 packs four cameras on the back, including a periscope-style camera for better zooming. The camera system, tuned by Leica, includes a 1-inch wide camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera. The phone will come in Black and Gold finishes, with a noticeable bump due to the larger camera sensor.
Xiaomi could use a unique teardrop-style hinge, similar to what Motorola and Samsung have used. This hinge design keeps the screen tightly closed to keep dust out and improve water resistance. However, it cannot completely eliminate the crease between the two screens.
On the inside, the Mix Fold 3 could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and support super-fast 100W charging. Despite Lei Jun praising the sleek design, it is worth noting that the previous Mix Fold 2 was already pretty slim among folding phones.
One concern may be its availability. Like the previous Mix Fold model, the Mix Fold 3 may be limited to the Chinese market initially. Other brands like Samsung and Tecno have introduced folding phones in India, and OnePlus is also expected to launch its folding phone there.
